Professor Nick Cutter theorizes that ancient cultures may have encountered these unusual time anomalies as many refer to ‘monsters and dragons’. And, beyond that, the time anomalies, have a fluid opening point here in our reality, meaning they don’t just open from the past, but also move from one place to another, allowing entry at any point.
In other words, these rips in time could pop up anytime, anywhere.
After the sudden appearance of a Mosasaur, a large prehistoric lizard like creature in a local reservoir, Cutter is drawn back in time to explore it’s origin and discovers his wife on the other side. She refuses to return with him but is later abducted by the government and brought back against her will to answer questions about the time anomaly.

The Mosasaur (from Latin Mosa meaning the ‘Meuse river’, and Greek sauros meaning ‘lizard’) are large marine lizards, long extinct in our current reality but very much alive in prehistoric waters. And, one has slipped through a rip in time to terrorize locals at a reservoir, Jaws style.
By the time Professor Cutter’s team arrives to investigate, the monster is no where to be found.
While Professor Nick Cutter spearheads a team expedition underwater to discover the source of the time portal, the ancient sea creature slips past, unnoticed in the darkness of the water, and circles menacingly around a defenseless Abby. Connor makes a desperate grab for her hand and they both scramble to shore, standing just inches from the snapping jaws of the humongous lizard like creature as it lunges up out of the water. After a few tense moments, the Mosasaur gives up it’s potential meal in frustration and retreats into the water in pursuit of easier prey, gliding past a surprised Professor Cutter back toward the opening of the time portal.
As the time portal snaps shut around the Mosasaur, one of the team divers is caught in it’s wake and slips through and is lost back in time.
Afterward, Professor Cutter surmises the time anomalies are not appearing by chance but could be caused by something similar to an earth quake in time ripping holes in our reality and allowing new anomalies to appear anywhere along the temporal fault line.
Government bureaucrats coerce Professor Cutter to swim through a newly formed time anomaly in an effort to retrieve his wife.
Once there, Nick is surprised to find his wife in such good health and high spirits, having survived alone without modern amenities for so many years.
As they talk, there are brief glimpses of Helen’s life during her eight years absence, including the possibility that she has come back through the portal many times before and has only kept the secret of the portals to prevent possible human encroachment and exploitation of the pristine pre-man paradise.
Impulsively, Helen asks Nick to abandon his life and explore the mysteries of the unadulterated world with her, hinting at a possibility of rekindling their romantic relationship again.
Spurning her obvious flirtations and seemingly numb and bitter at her abandonment for all these years, Nick turns Helen down, asking her to return to the present day.
When Helen refuses, Nick once again abandons his wife in the past and returns to present time.
On the other side, a group of military soldiers are ordered through the anomaly where they extract and return Helen Cutter, by force to the present time line to be taken into government custody for questioning about her knowledge of time travel.
