Kindle Fire vs Nook Tablet

With a quick hands-on with both the Kindle Fire and Barnes & Noble Tablet, they’re both very comparable to each other.

Barnes & Noble Tablet

The B&N tablet with the beefier specs gave a better experience in moving about the device. There isn’t a hint of lag in page turns when reading books and you also get that page turn animation. Magazines on the Tablet offer a richer user experience as some offer interactive segments within the magazine. Another thing that is a +1 is subscription, if you wish to subscribe to one you just press the button and that’s it. You don’t need to login or do anything else.

Market is somewhat limited as far as apps go, yes it’s built from Android but B&N has blocked access to the Marketplace (via web as well). The environment of Barnes & Noble is not as vast as Amazon’s but it does offer plenty to make you happy.

Amazon Kindle Fire

The Amazon Kindle Fire has lower specs but offers a much deeper experience for someone ingrained into the Amazon environment. There is points when you encounter some slight lag during page turns but you get the same effect with reading an actual book. This isn’t something that isn’t going to ruin your experience (unless your an *insert device* elitist) There is times in which the touch screen is not as responsive as it should be (icon presses, flicking).

You have access to Amazon’s App Store which has a very impressive amount of apps (not as much as the Android Marketplace), along with having the “free app of the day” specials there is plenty to choose from that will keep you busy. Along with the apps you have access to Amazon’s store with books, movies, music.

Closing

Deciding between the two is hard, each has their pros and cons. The lack of expandable memory on the Fire or to the B&N market with not as many items, but you have to look at the grand scheme o things. Each caters to their own particular market audience. Those of us that have the Amazon mp3 store and use it plenty of times along with if your an Amazon Prime member you choice is going to be easy, The Kindle Fire. Both devices offer an impressive screen that when watching videos will leave you quite pleased. For devices under the $250 mark you can’t go wrong with either of them.
